|
| Audience Analysis |
| This webquest was designed
for graduate level educational technology majors seeking a greater
understanding of the application of learning theory to the development of
materials for instruction. Students should have some prior
experience with instructional design. |
|

|
| Introduction |
| What's
the best way for you to learn? Do you absorb more information from a
lecture than a book? Would you rather watch a demonstration or do it
yourself? Educators agree that people learn in different ways including
auditory (hear it), visual (see it), and kinesthetic (hands on), just to
name a few. What is your learning style? How can you
reach every student in a diverse classroom where each student may have a
different learning style? For the next 60 minutes you will discover
the answer to these questions and learn how to use differences in learning
styles to design lessons to maximize learning in your future classrooms. |
|

|
| The
Task |
| To
effectively understand differences in the way students learn, it is
important to know how you learn and the characteristics of each distinct
learning style. |
| |
| By the
end of the lesson you will be able to: |
| 1)
Assess your learning style and that of your students |
| 2)
Distinguish between learning styles |
| 3)
Design lessons that engage students of every learning style |
|

|
| The
Process |
| You
will have the entire class period to work on this lesson. If
additional time is needed, the remainder of the lesson may be turned in at
the beginning of the next class period. |
| |
| Use
the procedure below to guide you through the lesson: |
| |
- Print out the Learning Guide and
Assessment Rubric
- Follow the "Learning Styles" link below and complete each
learning styles instrument. Read the analysis for each of your
test results and follow the links for each to learn about the possible
learning styles of your future students. Answer questions on the
learning guide.
- Follow the links in the "Learning Styles Summaries and Delivery
Strategies" section of the resource list. Answer the
questions on the learning guide.
- Follow the links in the "Developing Instructional Materials for
All Learning Styles" section of the resource list. Answer
questions on the learning guide and complete
the assignment using the attached assessment rubric.

- Completion of a lesson in any area of your choosing that engages students of
every learning style (85%)
|
|

|
| Conclusion |
| Through this activity you have been introduced to various
learning theories and styles, have evaluated each, have learned about your
personal learning style, and have learned to apply this information to
instruction. This understanding will enable you to design effective
materials for instruction that will engage every student in your
classroom. |
